Another Day Older and Deeper in Debt

Consumer debt in Canada is on the rise. Over last year it has gone up 9.1% (From 1.303 trillion to 1.422 trillion). This may seem to be a lot, but according to Regina Malina (Director of Analytics for Equifax). "The real pattern that we've been observing is that Canadians are taking on more debt, but they can handle it well and are making those monthly payments," she says. While a high debt load in today's economy isn't necessarily a big concern as of yet, we do have to watch how much debt we really are taking on as it can become too much.

For this article, I do kind of feel bitter sweet about it. No, I'm not happy that, in general, we are taking on more debt BUT I am joyous to hear that, as a whole, we can handle it. Since 2008, times have been fairly hard for a lot of people. Even in that, we Canadian still seem to be handling ourselves quite well. All I can hope for is that we balance out our debt levels and eventually start to decrease them.

MTA Strike Is Over

As of this weekend, it was announced that Mount Allison University's faculty are back off strike and the 2400 students will be going back to classes. The strike by the 154 full-time and 56 part-time faculty members lasted three weeks. After 14 hours of negotiations on Saturday, an agreement was found.

As dumb as I believe this whole thing was, I am just glad to see all of the students (some of whom are good friends of mine) get back to classes so they can finish up the year and get their money's worth out of it. Too much time was unnecessarily wasted so that Mister and Misses High-Paid-Professor could get MORE money while the students who paid thousands for their education were sitting at home, learning nothing but the TV guide. This whole situation was a joke if you ask me, and not a funny one either.

New Brunswick names mediator in bid to end Mount Allison University strike

The provincial government has brought in a special mediator to help the school and it's staff resolve the strike. He, Larry Steinberg, will be meeting with both sides this week. If this way to help does not work, the government will be running out of options.

I, for one, am very hopeful that this special mediator coming in will resolve this whole ridicules matter once and for all. I have many friends who paid a lot of money for tuition really have yet to have much class time. I have heard (from those friends) that they were expected to keep up on their readings and some assignments, even though they have barley had any lectures. Also, that they will lose their march break and have their semester extended. I am not sure about the rest of you, but I find that to be a load of bull. It makes me question: what is really thought of the students? Not a whole lot from what I am hearing and can see.

Tim Hortons' new logo/cup design.

Tim Hortons revealed a new look to their cups for their 50th anniversary (which is on May 17th of this year). For instance, it will read up the side "50 years fresh". Tim Hortons (as well all know or could have guessed) the biggest food chain in Canada and went from one store in Hamilton, Ontario to 4,350 in 50 years.

I thought I would keep this week blog light and on a happy note as well as short and sweet. For one I love the new design they have. Just the darker reds and gold they use look very appealing to me. I also think it's a great marketing scheme. Of course they would have to do something for their 50th anniversary and I really think they went with the right choice.

You can check out the link to the article below. I suggest you because if you scroll down you can see the look of Tim Hortons over the years. Always nice to look back at our culture's history, right folks? And like last time: Stay Golden!
